Dealing With Roaches Within An Apartment Complex

by Caitlin Harvey

If you are the property manager for an apartment complex, and you have been alerted that your tenants are dealing with a roach infestation, you will want to take immediate steps in removing them for the health and safety of those in the affected areas. Roaches can be rather difficult to remove on your own, so you will need to enlist the help of a pest control company like All Seasons Pest Control to eradicate roaches effectively.

If you need to get a hold of the landlord to authorize treatment, or if the pest control service is not able to perform duties the same day you call, follow these steps in keeping roaches at a minimum until help arrives.

Encourage Clean Units

Alert each tenant that it would be a good idea to clean up any areas of their home where food particles are present. Often if one tenant has a problem in their unit, it will spread to others quickly. Getting everyone on board to battle the problem together is an effective method in reducing numbers while waiting for a pest control service.

Gently suggest that each tenant wipe down kitchen counters and vacuum floors where food is prepared. Offer free cleaning supplies and the use of your personal vacuum cleaner so tenants will be more apt to be proactive in cleaning their units.

Contain Paper Products

Give each tenant a plastic storage container to be used for paper products. If tenants have magazines, newspapers, books, or paperwork in their unit, roaches will be naturally drawn to these items to feast on the cellulose they are made from. Placing paper items in a sealed plastic container will eliminate this available food source from the units. If tenants find they have a stack of paperwork with roaches crawling throughout the sheets, have them place the pile in the container and spray some commercial pest killer into the bin before quickly closing the lid. Have them wait several days before opening to ensure the roaches have perished.

Use Glue Traps

Give each tenant some glue traps to place inside their units to help remove some of the roaches while awaiting professional service. These can be purchased at a home goods store. Tell tenants to place them in dark areas of rooms where roaches were noticed, such as behind appliances or under furniture. Placing them along the perimeters of walls will capture more roaches as they use this area to navigate around interior areas. Make sure tenants check the traps each day and dispose of them when they are full. Keep plenty of traps on hand should tenants need them.

About Me

Eliminating The Bugs Of Your House

After living with a pest problem in our home for years, I kind of figured the bugs were there to stay. I had tried just about every kind of at-home treatment that I could think of, but nothing was working. It was frustrating, but I knew that there had to be something that could help. After failing for what seemed like the millionth time, I finally decided to work with a professional exterminator. The expert was incredibly proficient and knowledgeable about pest problems, and remarkably, he removed all of the pests from our house that day. This blog is all about working with a pro to eliminate pest problems.
